FILM POSTER

Clothing:

The woman is seen wearing a simple black strappy dress which could sexualise and objectify her as a woman. She is also seen wearing red lipstick which could connote her sexuality as a woman as well as her sexual passion. Red connotes with the idea of sexual imagery as in the American dream society women were seen as objects, which therefore they had no control and they were weak as shown in the poster. The man is seen to be wearing a simple black suit which could highlight his business middle class status, that means he needs to look of a higher status.

 Expression:
The facial expressions of the positioned front image of the man and the woman show how  she is looking at him, whereas he's looking at his lips. It also seems as if her hands are tied, possibly with a rope, which suggests s
he's weak and not in control of the relationship. In contrast, the man in the back is shirtless making him vulnerable. However, the women hitting him seems to be extremely angry and vexed about a certain situation that caused her to use the weapon on him.

Technique:

The bold lettering of the main characters are in red, which could connote the sexualised imagery or passion between the main characters. In addition to this, this is the only text that is in bold red

which could show their importance in the film. This contrasts to the title which is in black, shown to be as important as the main actors. The simplicity of then background is used to emphasise the main attribute to the images as well as the title and main actors. The off white highlights the red and black making it seem quite bold.

Colours

Colour scheme of red, white and black. The connotations of red could imply tat sexualising women as red highlights the sexual desire and pleasure women are objectified.

Images

The film poster is a cartoon figure which could show the fantasy vs reality aspect of the idealistic women that the 1940's American dream of women are presented as. In the background, it can be seen that there is a shirtless man being attacked by a woman which could  show occurrence of female dominance. The main image is of a man and woman. In this picture it is shown that the man is grouping her by the neck. This could show the patriarchal society they lived in as the man shows male dominance with the act of showing power and being inferior in society. By positioning the man abusing the woman as the first image and the woman hitting the man in the image positioned near the back, this shows the idea of male dominance, taking a hold of society and how it is constructed and how it was considered the norm to do that.
